If you’re staying with us at Berg en Zee, you’ve chosen an excellent spot from which to visit dozens of amazing wine farms in the regions of Somerset West, Stellenbosch, Franschoek and Paarl.

Let’s start today with some of the best farms you can find in the area and they’re on our doorstep in Gordon’s Bay. Just about 15km away you will find a clutch of farms within a radius of about 1km from each other. It’s an ideal day’s outing if you’d like to taste some fine wine and olives as well as taking in some of the most magnificent scenery in the Cape.

First off is Vergelegen and you can see one of its beautiful Cape Dutch style houses in the photo. Here you will find hectares of amazing gardens where you can stroll and enjoy a picnic, interesting and historical buildings, excellent restaurants and, of course, 5-star wines.

On the neighbouring property is Morgenster – a very modern style of architecture but in a fabulous setting. The olives are award-winning and you can taste a range of olive oils, pestos and olives whilst you are sampling their excellent red wines.

Thirdly, just down the road you can visit another Cape Dutch style wine farm at Lourensford. Again the grounds are magnificently manicured and they have very good cellar tours on offer, as well as wine, brandy, cheese and coffee tasting.

What a perfect way to spend the day and just a short drive home to Gordon’s Bay at the end of it!
